Folio is proud to present Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy first published in 1878 and widely considered to be the greatest works of literature ever written.
The story takes place against the backdrop of the liberal reforms initiated by Alexander II of Russia, the rapid social transformations that followed. It centers on the extramarital affair between Anna Karenina and the dashing Count Vronsky that scandalizes St Petersburg society.
Using the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition, our discussions will be based on the technique of Shared Inquiry developed by the Great Books Foundation. The discussions will be facilitated by Folio librarian Lillian Dabney. Meetings will be held weekly on Mondays. See the full schedule below for details.
If possible please obtain the edition listed above. In addition to ensuring that we are all reading the same translation, using the same edition makes discussion easier since we can refer to the same pages in the text.
