About the Event

Celebrate Banned Books Week at Folio with a curated selection of programs that address the book challenges we are facing at this time. The theme this year is Let Freedom Read.

Join Folio librarian Lillian Dabney and our panel of publishers and experts for discussion on publishers' response to book banning and learn how citizens can help combat the banning of books.

The panel includes Michelle Fadlalla Leo VP, Director of Education and Library Marketing for Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing, Mary Van Akin Director of School & Library Marketing at Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, Elise Severe founder of Neighbors United for Progress, the political action organization that sued to stop the library dissolution measure from going on the November ballot,  Tanya Patton former chair of the Dayton Library Board, and Deb Fortner who worked alongside Patton to save the Dayton Library in the face of 2023’s dissolution challenge.
